Alex Rodriguez may have just signed a ten year, $275 million contract, but come Turkey Day, you may have just as much to be thankful for as he does – or maybe not…
A MOMENT OF THANKSGIVING WITH ALEX RODRIGUEZ (or some other rich guy)
Hi, I’m Alex Rodriguez. Many of you probably think I should consider myself extremely fortunate because I am so wealthy. You’re half right. I am truly blessed, but not because I have money. The best things in life really are free, and at this time of year I believe it is important to give thanks for what truly matters.
I am thankful for my wife. There is nothing more heartwarming than coming home from a job where everyone is down on you and some even demand you be let go, and finding the love of your life dutifully standing by you, encouraging you and reminding you that your contract is guaranteed. Money can’t buy that.
I am thankful for my friends. There is nothing more reassuring than calling your best buddies when you’re in trouble and knowing that they will drop everything to come to your aid, whenever and wherever you direct your private jet to bring them. Money can’t buy that.
I am thankful for my family. There is nothing more joyous than visiting the loved ones who reared you as a child and basking in their unending praise for you and your life choices as you relax on their couch in your 10,000 square foot guest house. Money can’t buy that.
I am thankful for my health. There is nothing more comforting than knowing you are free from ailment, disorder and disease, and having every test, scan, vaccine and doctor known to man at your fingertips to prove it. Money can’t buy that.
I am thankful for freedom. There is nothing more liberating than speaking your mind, following your heart, and getting a banker from Goldman, Sachs on the phone to convince your boss that he needs to give you a raise. Money can’t buy that.
I am thankful for laughter. There is nothing more fun than giggling like a care-free child at a well-told joke delivered by a world-famous comedian at a celebration honoring your generous donation to your favorite charity. Money can’t buy that.
I am thankful for sunsets. There is nothing more beautiful than brilliant streaks of orange and purple cascading down western skies, and bleeding into the calm waters of the crystal blue Caribbean, where they reflect off the solid gold railings that adorn the starboard deck of your 100 foot yacht. Money can’t buy that.
I am thankful for dreams. There is nothing more inspiring than envisioning greater heights you can reach, new challenges you can conquer, and all the other amazing opportunities life has to offer while you blissfully pass the downtime of your annual four month vacation. Money can’t buy that, either.
Here’s hoping my humble thoughts help you keep things in perspective this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving!
A-Rod
